Why Some Gun Safes are Expensive?

Why are somne gun safes so expensive? If you are someone who owns a gun safe, it is likely one of the most expensive items you own. And yes, there can be many gun safes on the market that are not that much money, but if you are looking for a quality safe, you should expect to pay for quality, security and warranty.

Why then are these so safes costly? Well, there’s a lot that goes into it including shipping costs, cost of labor, cost of materials and more!

Lets see more in depth why quality safes are priced they way they are:

Cost of Labor: One reason why safes are costly is because of labor. Those people who build safes are in a very specialized industry. These people are knowledgeable in the engineering, manufacturing and assembly of the safe.

Cost of Shipping and Transportation: If you are purchasing a safe that is manufactured in another country or even in another state, the shipping and delivery costs can be expensive. The cost of shipping a safe that is large and heavy tend to carry a high cost. Consider the transportation, the machinery to move it and the labor to move it.

Cost of Testing: The cost of testing the safes is also extremely high for the companies who make the safes. For quality safes, it is extremely important to test them prior to going into mass production of the safes. So, after a prototype has been created, they have to pass both fire rating tests and burglary tests by either the manufacturer or by a testing agency such as U.L.

Cost of Material: Another reason for high costs are quality of materials, thickness of steel and safe design. When you are purchasing a high quality safe, it should be engineered well, made using thick and high quality steel, and it is made with precise machinery to avoid future problems.

Warranty: Manufacturers offer various warrantties. One should stay within a budget when making a safe purchase, but be cogniscent of the lengh of the warranty. Is the warranty 30 days, 60 days, 1 year, 5 years or even up to the lifetime the purchser owns the safe? The longer the warranty, the more confident the manufacturer is that the safe will operate/function long-term.
