Locking up your firearms can significantly reduce gun-related deaths and injuries. Many products that are meant to store guns are made quite poorly and can be easy to break into. In addition the standards for gun security don’t really cut it.
There have been reports of how some gun safes can be broken into just by jiggling the lock or by bumping into it. In addition, there are no required standards for securing guns nationally. Some states do have standards and many gun safe companies strive to meet these standards, but unfortunately, those standards are out of date and weak at best. In spite of this, locking up firearms in your home can result in a major reduction in unintentional firearm injuries...especially unintended injuries to curious children and children that are just not aware of the danger in playing with a firearm.
